Knee replacement surgery requires the replacement of the cartilage in the knee joint. The cartilage at the ends of the bones that form the knee joint can become worn down over time, leading to pain and a lack of mobility. During knee replacement surgery, the surgeon removes the worn cartilage and implants a metal or alloy cap at the tip of each bone.
